How do I clean the filters in my dishwasher?

To keep the pump area clear, the filters in your Dishwasher should be cleaned regularly. Samsung dishwashers have been designed to place the drain pump and filtering system within easy reach inside the tub for your convenience.

The drain pump drains the dirty water from the dishwater generated while the dishwater is running. Inside the drain pump, there is a filter assembly for filtering debris and foreign matter. If the filter assembly is clogged with debris or foreign matter, it can cause problems, such as abnormal noise, odours from food waste, etc.

Types of Filters

Filter

Description

Main Filter


Food and soil particles trapped by this filter are pulverised by a special jet on the lower spray arm and washed down the drain.
 

Coarse Filter


Larger items, such as pieces of bone or glass, that could clog the drain are trapped in the coarse filter. To remove an item caught in this filter, gently squeeze the tabs on top of this filter and lift it out.
 

Fine/Micro Filter


This filter holds soil and food residue in the sump area and prevents it from being redeposited on the dishes during a cycle.
 

Cleaning the Filters

Note:

  • You may want to use protective gloves when removing the filters or checking the sump area.

  • The entire filter assembly should be cleaned regularly.

  • Never run the dishwasher without the filters in place.

  • When cleaning the filters, take care to not inadvertently damage them.
1 Open the door of the dishwasher and remove the lower rack and dishes.
2 Turn the filter handle counterclockwise to unlock the Coarse filter.

3 Remove the Coarse filter.

4 Remove the cylindrical Micro/Fine filter underneath.

5 Press down on the tabs located on the Coarse filter to detach.

6 Remove any dirt and impurities from the Micro/Fine filter and the Coarse filter under running water.

7 Rinse both filters with running water, and then dry well.
Check the sump area
8 Reinsert the filter, and then the Coarse filter.

Note: Do NOT put the fine/micro filter in upside down.

9 Turn the filter handle clockwise to lock.

Caution:

  • Make sure the Coarse filter is closed properly. A loose cover can reduce the filtering performance.

  • When removing the filter, be careful with your hand as it can get caught between the rotor and filter.
